Francis I. Révai took over the half of Sklabiňa Castle together with Turčianska Štiavnička valley (Sczewnice) in 1527. He took over the other half in 1540.

The origins of the Château go back to the beginning of the 16th century with the first mention of Michal Révai’s building on the outskirts of the village.

The first written reference to the Renaissance Château which was the residence of the Štiavnica line of the Révay family.

The Empire greenhouse – Orangery and the outbuildings, designed by Matúš Šmala, were built near to the Château (1838 – 1841).

The construction restoration after the fire was carried out in the style of late classicism. In this period, the English park started to be built around the Château. The origins of the park go back to the end of the 18th century and its development was mainly thanks to the former owner of this estate and Mayor Šimon Révai, Jr. The park features magnificent ponds and rare trees.

The Château was once again struck by fire. In this period, the former owner Ladislav Révai had the Rosarium planted around the Orangery and the fountains. Before the end of the Second World War, the Rosarium contained about 160 varieties of roses.

The owner of the Château Ladislav Révai and his family left the estate. Afterwards, the Révay property was expropriated, and the Château remained uncared for. After 1945, the mansion was seized and its premises were used by various organisations and state institutions.

The Château with the greenhouse and the park was managed by the Rector’s Office of the Comenius University in Bratislava that has turned the estate into a scientific research unit.

The Château underwent reconstruction that involved large-scale construction work focused on the structural stability of the building.

At the turn of the 20th and 21st century, several private companies became owners of the Château and the building underwent minor reconstruction works.

A new era of the Château begins. A foreign investor bought the whole area of the Chateau with the park along with the building permits for the complete redevelopment of the estate as well as for the construction of the townhouses.
